When
designed by Dan Soutar in 1925 (with bunkering laid out by
Dr. Alister Mackenzie) it was officially the longest course
ever seen in Australia . At over 6,800 yards it contained
12 par 5's and played to a par of 82 - a severe test using
hickory-shafted clubs! In line with its name, "The Heath"
is Australia 's (if not the world's!) greatest "heath
land" course - the holes integrating perfectly, seamlessly
and beautifully into the natural vegetation. Like the rest
of its Sandbelt cousins the course conditions are invariably
hard, fast and true.
For
many seasoned golfers it is the course's short par 4's that
distinguish it. However, it also contains a wonderfully varied
(and deadly) set of par 3's. This course is a timeless gem
and a true pleasure to play. Kingston Heath has hosted
all of the country's greatest tournaments and Tiger Woods
will visit as the headline attraction for the 2009 Australian
Masters.
