Description

18 holes - 6317 yards - SSS71

Originally at Monifieth, it moved to Barry in 1899. It is a traditional links course, adjacent to the world renowned Carnoustie Championship Links. Prior to winning The Open at Carnoustie in 1953 Ben Hogan was given the privilege of practicing at Panmure. Panmure, at that time, was an extremely private Club and Hogan was able to practice away from the prying eyes of the public and the press. The Secretary, Alistair Lindsay Robertson, played a round with Hogan during which the American remarked that the sixth hole could be improved if there was a bunker to the front right of the green. This suggestion was eventually followed up and that hazard is now affectionately known as "Hogan's Bunker"!
